The five-part video series “If Only We Had Known: A Family Guide to Borderline Personality Disorder” is a comprehensive exploration of BPD and the impact it has on individuals, families and society. The series was funded, in part, by a grant from the U.S National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) explores the nature of BPD, how it develops, how it is diagnosed and treated and how families can learn to cope with the chaos it brings into their homes.

The deeply personal stories of four families decade long struggles and ultimate triumph over BPD are complemented by thoughtful insights from many of the leading figures in the filed of BPD research and clinical practice.

A research study tested the effect of the programs on 300 family members. The data collected showed the family members experienced a marked increase in their knowledge of BPD, enhanced feelings of mastery in dealing with BPD, and a decrease in the emotional burden they felt trying to understand and help a loved one who had BPD.
