Dr. Linehan is the developer of Dialectical Behavior Therapy, also known as DBT.
The goals of DBT are to help people understand their out- of-control emotions and to teach them how to better manage those erratic emotions in real life situations.
Through her unique contributions, Dr. Linehan fundamentally changed the widespread belief that people with BPD were difficult, if not impossible, to treat.
In fact, her work has helped many thousands of people come to believe that, despite carrying the burden of dysregulated emotions, life is worth living

Dr. Linehan recently retired from teaching position at the University of Washington in Seattle and from her leadership role at Behavioral Technology (B-Tech) the company she formed to disseminate the practice of DBT worldwide.
